Biggest Fear When Diagnosed
Suffering/Finances/Concern for my family/That I wouldn't be able to maintain my life.
How did you overcome that fear?
Took one day at a time and trusted God to get me through it all!
What got you through your cancer experience?
Faith in God, family and friends.
What advice would you like to pass on to others?
Be thankful for every day that you wake up and feel good! Even in the midst of treatments you will have bad days when you think you won't make it -- but there will also be days when you wake up and feel good in spite of. Don't let fear grip you -- it won't help - whatever things are good or positive -- concentrate on those and try to keep the negative thoughts away!
What was the most important lesson you learned?
None of us know how long our life will be -- That if there is something you want to do don't put it off.
What would you like to tell other women who are either newly diagnosed or too afraid to seek treatment?
I didn't think this would ever happen to me. I had my first questionable mammogram and then canceled my follow-up three times until they stressed how important it was for me to go. Just do it! There's no benefit in putting off treatment. Get your yearly checkups - mammograms are uncomfortable but if you catch Breast Cancer early enough you can avoid the discomfort of chemo. There's a lot that can be done if started early enough. You don't want to think that maybe something could have been done but you procrastinated.
